In the history of Nigeria, the reign of some traditional monarchs has been unexpectedly cut short.
This article looks at some monarchs who were removed for various misconducts including insubordination, abuse of power, women abuse, and drunkenness.
1. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II: The Kano State Governor dethroned the former Governor of the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) over claims of meddling in political activities ahead of the 2019 elections.
2. Eze Joseph Okor: (Ivi of Akaeze) He was removed by the Ebonyi State Government for drunkenness.
3. Eze Michael Orji: The monarch of Anioma, Onicha Local Government was ousted from office for reportedly sabotaging the government’s development programmes in their communities.
4. Aslem Aidenojie: (Onojie of Uromi Kingdom) Edo state. He was removed by former National Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole for women abuse but later reinstated by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
5&6. Atiku Abubakar, emir of Zurmi, and Hussaini Umar, emir of Dansadau were dethroned by the Zamfara state government for alleged involvement in banditry in the state.
